One thing we love about spearfishing is the sense of adventure and desire to explore new areas, chasing new species of fish. How do you travel with a TAG speargun?
We get this question a lot...
Most of our divers have switched to a spearfishing-specific backpack due to the ease of carrying and it's ability to double as your dive backpack when you arrive at your destination. Plus, it's a great alternative to a mesh duffle bag when you have a long walk or hike to a dive spot.
For years, we have been checking these backpacks in our travels around the world without issue. Typically, we wrap the speargun(s) in a wetsuit or towel, then place that in between the fins. A towel or wetsuit protecting the tips of the fins is also a good idea!
These bags are perfect for our packable spearguns and can fit a surprising amount of gear! Most recently, on a trip to La Paz, Mexico, the following gear was fit into a single Spearo Pack as a regular checked luggage:
135cm Pack Hunter PRO
130cm Pack Invert Roller
100cm Pack Hunter
6ea packable spear shafts
Weights and weight belt
Full 3mm wetsuit
Full rash guard
100' floatline
High pressure 30L float
Longblade fins
All other dive gear - knife, mask, gloves, booties, etc
GoPro and Extra housing
Iphone housing
Dive light
Etc.
Please note that, while we have not had any issue with damage, airlines are unpredictable and damage does occur, regardless of luggage type. Some divers still prefer to use packed-down sportubes to transport their TAG setups, fins and other dive gear. Others prefer a typical checked-luggage suitcase.
